Where did this rumor generate? There really is no such foul as I can find.

Blocking, illegal hands or pushing.

We cannot apply a penalty to a taller or higher jumper. There "better play" always gets the "Over the back" yell.

How do you guy's "watch / read /manage / call" for the foul coach's call "Over the Back"?

Displacement and verticality. If player B is being boxed out and goes "through" Player A, displacing Player A, then you have a pushing foul. If Player B is athletic enough to go up and over Player A w/o contact that displaces Player A or violates Player A's verticality, then all he did was get a rebound.

Very astute of you to realize that if a coach calls "over the back", that coach is foul.

Over the back

There is a "big" difference between over the back and on the back. I normally call it a push if the are really on the back.

This is a common complaint by many coaches and spectators and players... It seems to fit along with the "reaching" foul everyone wants called, when there's no contact. (even is there is contact, no such thing as a "reach" as a foul - a hack, hold, etc..., but no "reach")

What amazed me was watching a Varsity HS official, several years ago, go to the table and report an over-the-back foul, using a "Bat-Man" signal to signal it! I just about fell over laughing!

Most officials seem pretty good, when you ask "over-the-back" because, for some dumb reason, they call it that, they change their wording to a push.

My partner called about 3 of them in our game Friday evening. I was grimacing as he made the "call" but I wish he had used the Batman arm motion... I would have cracked up... perhaps he would have flown right out of there.

With about 3 seconds left in a 1 point game he called a double dribble when a trapped dribbled stopped her dribble and then dropped the ball. When she picked it back up he called double dribble.... man was he proud.

Oooohhh my get me out of here quick!

Does "dropped" mean "let it go" or "fumbled"?

Maybe he saw it different from you? And, why were you both watching?

I saw a Division I official give what someone called the "Batman" signal -- except at the time my friend (who is not an official) and I termed it the "creeping death foul."

Funny as he11.
