What mechnaics or signals do you use at the end of quarters to make sure your partner is aware that you are under a minute and who has clock on shot? Or do you do it at 30 seconds or whatever. Do you only signal one time or everytime there is a change in trail?

rc, great question! we were just talking about this a few nights ago...there has to be a 'universal signal'.

sometimes we use a 'pat on the head', sometimes we use the index finger in the air...

I usually do a small gesture toward the clock of tap my wrist where my watch would be. In lower level games and small schools I make sure I tap my chest if I have the clock for last second shots (I work in some gyms where there's only one scoreboard so occasionaly lead has a better look at the clock but I make sure I pregame this).

I had a partner once who pointed to his nose in the last minute to indicate we were on "short time". I asked him why he did that and he said his nose is so big that when he stands sideways, he looks like a sundial.

Really.

I use the index finger in the air. Have had partners also point to their watch. And have used the pat the chest to indicate that I've got the clock. Have had one evaluator say he prefers to do this at 0:30. Definitely worth pre-gaming.

I use 1 finger in the air ( yes it is the index) when we go under 30... with Drake its under 24 (wonder why)

I dont think it needs to be subtle and the 1-- for 1 shot left works weell. I would just as soon tell everyone in the place I know we have the clock winding down. I know the horn is not sneaking up on us...

I actually like the NBA pat to the head when it goes under a minute ( two in the 4th) and then the finger when we go under 30 (24)..

I will communicate with partner on who has final shot either tap to me or point to him

We use pat on head answered by pat on head or a head nod. We also have lots of gyms with only one clock which makes it tough in a close game.

I pat my head and rub my stomach at the same time.

Or is it the other way 'round?

One finger in the air at 1:00 and it stays there until I get a mirror from my partner(s).

Being the consumate, attention-to-detail partners that they are, they surely pointed to the point on their wrists where, when not on the court, they might wear a watch . ;)

I don't think you're /that/ talented, JR.

What do you decide? There is one gym here with 1 scoreboard and a very quiet horn. In 2 man we pregamed that the official away from the clock takes it.
