If you watched the game, what do you think about the refs that did the high school game on ESPN2 last night? I think they did a good job overall.
I wonder if someone told them to use college mechanics or if they did them on their own.

I didn't see the game, but my guess is that whoever assigned the officials to the game got college officials to do the game and the officials just used their normal (CCA) mechanics.

(I have very very slim hopes that I might be in that position next month. Shhhhhhh.)

The games in question are part of the Hall of Fame tournament in Springfield, MA. It has been rumored (but I haven't confirmed it) that at least one of these games may be carried on the worldwide leader.

If this was a high school game, why would they use NCAA officials?

I wondered the same thing. They pro'bly are all trying to get into college. So of course they'd use CCA mechs. maybe.

Some officials do both. I know someone who did high school, college and CBA at the same time. He doesn't do it anymore but he is one of the best officials I know.

They were wearing IAABO shirts.

Those three officials who worked that game are three of the best officials in my area. This was a high profile game and I thought they did an excellent job. By the way, I know one of them to be a college official. They propably wore the IAABO shirts because the assignments came down from our high school athletic league assignor.

Two officials that I have worked with are scheduled to be on ESPN2 ... sometime.

The game will be a profile of the Watersmeet Nimrods against the Bessemer Speedboys here in the U.P.

Jim Weiler and Jim Trcha will be working that game tonight, but the telecast date is unknown.

It should also be noted that the Nimrods play in the Porcupine Mountain Conference.

Just found out that the deal with ESPN2 starts with next year's invitational. So I won't be on the tube, even though I will be doing one of the "regional" games. Oh well.

Not high school, but I've always been intrigued by the Scottsdale (AZ) Community College Pink Artichokes.

I do not have personal experience with these schools, but I did ask the student who was wearing the "Letter Jacket". He claimed his school was called the Freeport (IL) Pretzels and they frequently play the Monroe (WI) Cheesemakers.

When they meet it is called the "Cheese and Crackers" Bowl. :D

Mark, it's not a question of making a finals. The invitational is divided into two brackets: regional and national. The regional teams are our local HS teams who play teams from CT and MA. The national bracket contains schools from outside the area, such as Dematha (from MD) and Christ the King (from NYC).

The first year, I got three games; two regional and one national. This year I have a regional game only. I don't think that's a reflection on my performance last time. But this time we're using 2-whistle, instead of 3, and it's a little more organized, so the assignments are given out longer in advance (meaning, I won't get a desparate call an hour before the game to jump on :) ).
