Found out a classmate of mine is a ref across the border (MN-WI) - he saw me reviewing the NFHS Case Book. He has
his first Varsity game coming up so I try to think of different examples I have read of (since it hurts to try and
think of new ones).

I ask him: Team A is moving ball from b.c. to f.c., A1 passes
to A2. A2 catches ball with feet straddling division line. He lifts foot in b.c. and sets it back down in b.c.
Is it a b.c. violation? He didn't think so, but I indicated yes, and found it on p. 22, 4.4.1.

He felt there had to be 3 points of contact established. As a nordic ski racer, I can identify that with a skate technique,
but ain't ever heard of it in basketball. Has anyone out there heard of that?

The 3 points of contact he is referring to is for a dribbler. When dribbling from the backcourt to the frontcourt; the dribbler remains in the backcourt until both feet and the ball have crossed the center line. This requirement is only when dribbling. In your scenario where you catch a pass straddling the line once you pick up the foot that in the back court you now have achieved frontcourt status. If you set the foot down in the backcourt it is a violation.
