Okay, in all seriousness, folks, why are we making such a big deal about this?!?! How often is it really going to be an issue? I'm serious about this question. Who expects to have to explain it more than once this year?

Hawks Coach Fri Nov 14, 2003 05:30pm

I had to explain to one of my players on Saturday. I have never coached the "straddle," but one of my players plays HS ball with another player who was coached, and blah blah blah . . .

Anyhow, she gets called for her third foul, a block, and says that she set herself and even straddled the line. I just looked at her and said, "That's why it's a good call!" Told her I would tell her the whole thing later, but all she needed to know was that there is a new way to rule on that play this year.

I don't know that it's even why she got the block, but it could have been and should have been.

Not a big deal. Almost never an issue. Call it like you've always called it. If the coach b!tches tell him to look at the tape & get back to you if you were wrong. And apparently "wrong" depends on the state you live in.

I don't expect to have to explain it at all to coaches. It's the stupid fans that will yell. "He was set, it has to be a charge." Ok that was a JH coach. But who is ever satisfied with a block/charge call? I have never heard everyone one in the building go "Great Call" in unison over that call.
