A Quick Review Of The 2025-26 NFHS Basketball Rules Changes …

Published on You Tube by an entity called the Officials Institute, not the NFHS, nor IAABO.

I have not 100% vetted it yet, but it looks pretty good at first glance.

Anybody notice that the NFHS has recently changed its basketball rules page on the NFHS website.

2025-26 NFHS Basketball Rules Changes are no longer posted (as they were several weeks ago) on the new website, but the old 2024-25 NFHS Basketball Rules Changes are posted.

Look around and one can find the press release for the 2025-26 NFHS Basketball Rules Changes.

Still waiting for further clarification of 2025-26 NFHS Basketball Points of Emphasis, and the 2025-26 NFHS Basketball Rule Interpretations.

Intentionally Striking The Backboard ...

"Intentionally striking the backboard (not a legitimate block attempt) is still a technical foul." (Paraphrased)

Really?

NFHS: Additionally, the act of intentionally slapping or striking the backboard during a shot attempt will now result in basket interference and not a technical foul. This addition of new Rule 4-6-2 and corresponding removal of Rule 10-4-4b from the “Player Technical” section aims to standardize officiating and remove intent from the decision.

Maybe he was referring to this?

NFHS 10-4-4b: This rule prohibits players from illegally contacting the backboard or ring in ways that create an unfair advantage or interfere with a scoring attempt. This rule is designed to maintain fair play and protect the integrity of scoring opportunities by penalizing actions affecting the outcome of a shot, with a technical foul.

I'm so confused?

Does this have anything to do with Ralph Sampson?

Billy:

The NFHS site change over was done for all Sports at 12:00amEDT, July 01, 2025, and the new pages are not user friendly. How could the site change and instead of keeping the up-to-date page it reverts to an obsolete page. It is like there is no one is doing any proof reading in Indianapolis.

If anyone did not download the 2025-26 Rules Changes Press Release and the 2025-26 Rules and Editorial Changes and POE, just send me your email address via a PM and I will email them to you. They will be PDF attachments.

Every year I have to say the same thing: The NFHS is not very diligent in taking care of all the business associated with rule changes.

I've said for a while, wait for the books to come out because what's in the LR isn't always quite what ends up in the rules. When theu changed the throw in spots originally, the PR and actual rule was almost different worlds.
