A girl’s youth basketball coach in Connecticut is accused of vehicular assault after video captured him plowing into someone and driving off after an argument about a weekend game, authorities said Monday.

The hit, which sent the apparent victim tumbling over the vehicle's hood, happened Saturday at Horace W. Porter School, east of Hartford, Connecticut State Police said in a news release.

Not excusing the coach's behavior, but we have a lot of "helicopter parents" here in Connecticut, the birthplace of the first practical single lifting-rotor helicopter.

Not sure what your response has to do with the incident. The person who was hit was the coach of one team, and the person who hit him was the coach of the other team.

Definitely don't understand your reference to helicopters and why you think it's appropriate here.

It is youth sports for God's sake. No one is getting anything special out of the outcome. Seriously, there is no reason to take it to the parking lot.

But the person is chasing an individual and trying to attack them on some level. Why are you chasing a person in a car and then when they drive away, you get in their way? What is wrong with you? Not saying that the person should be hit with a car, but without due respect, how does the person know the individual does not have a weapon or something to harm them in the car? It was just dumb on many levels by the person who eventually got hit by the car.

Peace

Person hit was initially identified as a parent on our local radio and television.

Of course, regarding a game on this low level, the person hit could have been both a coach and a parent.

As a retired teacher and coach, I'm very familiar with "helicopter parents".

My son, a college professor, also has the same problems with parents of his college students.

If other Forum members aren't familiar with the phrase, I can expound.

Helicopter parents is actually an older term, which has been supplemented by "lawnmower parents"....getting rid of all obstacles in their kid's way. Of course, both are awful.

We all know what a helicopter parent is. I'm confused by you referencing it when the story linked specifically said the incident involved two coaches.

Your ability to just throw random stuff on this board it's very confusing, not the definition of phrases.

As an educator, you should also be familiar with terms like accuracy and facts and personal interpretation.

I've read the linked article five times and see no reference to the victim being another coach (nor a parent).

From the linked article:

The person, who was not identified, was hospitalized with minor injuries, according to the release.

My apologies if victim is not a coach. Article said victim approached visiting team coach, I took that specific details as both being coaches.

I had the advantage of local radio and television identifying victim as a parent.
