We will have to wait until the new rulebook is officially published to find out.
IAABO (not the NFHS) came out with an interesting ruling on a recent "Make The Call" play.

Again, this is IAABO, not the NFHS.

Beginning this season, if the official determines that a defensive player has "faked being fouled" it will require some discipline on the part of officials to determine when play should be stopped. In this play, the ball handler is in the backcourt and not actively moving toward the basket, therefore the official would have support to stop the play immediately and address the infraction.

In other situations, where a scoring play is in progress or if the offense is actively seeking to score, the officials delay their whistle and allow the play to continue. In these cases, the offense will be allowed as many attempts at the basket as needed to score, and play will be stopped after the goal is scored or the offending team secures control of the ball.

It should be noted, that the official will display the "flopping" signal at the time the infraction occurs, even if they are allowing play to continue.

The initial "flopping" infraction will result in a warning being given to the team.

Any subsequent infractions will result in a team technical foul. This new rule will be outlined in rule 4-49 (the foul does not count toward the player's disqualification).

We hope this play helps our members begin the process of understanding this new rule. We will be posting more plays in the coming weeks that will help officials understand what actions constitute faking being fouled and when to stop play to penalize.
