New Signal

I was working at a high school camp that had a JUCO assignor that ran the camp. I was to present the New Rules for 2024-2025. I was talking about the new flopping rules with the definition. I gave this presentation multiple times on Friday and this was Saturday. I gave the first presentation of the day and one of the clinicians who happened to be in the room, looked up the signal chart for the NF. Lo and behold, there is a signal for the new flopping rule. When did this happen? I was shocked. I was telling the groups there was no signal yet, but one might be added. Did anyone announce this or is this just something just put in the rulebook on a secret meeting? LOL!!!! Peace |

I wonder if IAABO will add it to their signal chart? |

I was curious what the signal would look like, and it appears they copied the NCAA-M two-handed signal instead of FIBA's one-handed one.
Do we know what the protocol will be to report the initial flop warning? Do we stop play right away, or do we wait to report it at the next dead ball? |

IAABO came up with its own mechanics manual and signals back in 2004-05. Two years ago IAABO came up with its own Rules "Guide" (not Rules "Book") and "Play" Book (not "Case" Book). However, the IAABO "Handbook" does contain the caveat, "Officials are encouraged to use this book in conjunction with the current editions of the NFHS Rules Book and Case Book". |
What is felt is wrong about waiting until the next dead ball? Similar to a delayed technical foul, stopping play immediately might hinder a team. What have officials here seen that was negative in waiting?

However, it's pointless to speculate on what might happen and specifically how it will be enforced in FED until the actual rule comes out. |

That is all I will say for now. But the the rest of the basketball world waits until the next opportunity to stop play. That means relatively immediately for an offensive player that flops. And let the play finish or penalize after the offense has had a chance to score. Peace |
