Roy "Wrong Way" Riegels (1929 Rose Bowl) …

7-6-6: Allows the official administering a throw-in to the wrong team to correct the mistake before the first dead ball after the ball becomes live unless there is a change of possession.

My partner used the new rule yesterday after we went the wrong way on an alternating possession throwin.

First time for me with the new rule.

It felt "odd" that we could inbound the ball on the backcourt endline, get the ball into the frontcourt, set up an offense, and then have a full "do over".

I was so surprised that I forgot that I could deduct my backcourt count and put some time back on the game clock.

Maybe next time?

Bingo Card ...

Here's what my new rule Bingo card looks like:

Check: Black Allowed For All Visitor Undershirts

Check: Bonus By Quarter, Fifth Foul, No More One And One

Check: Four Throwin Spots In Front Court Except For Out Of Bounds

Check: Wrong Team Throw-In Correctable To First Dead Ball Unless There Is A Change Of Possession

Check: Teammates Must All Wear Same Color Shorts (technically not enforced but it was acknowledged as being allowed in Connecticut only middle school games)

Check: Unsporting Player Technical Foul Sits A Tick (Connecticut only)

I only need to broach two more new rules to complete up my Bingo card:

May Not Gain Advantage By Purposely Stepping Out Of Bounds And Be The First To Touch Ball After Returning Inbounds

Connecticut Varsity Shot Clock (due to arthritis in my foot, I no longer work varsity games)

Here in my little corner of Connecticut, we've been instructed to ignore middle school uniform (not equipment) issues, thus we can legally have home team not wearing white, teammates wearing different color shorts, illegal numbers, and duplicate numbers.

Reported a foul on #6 this week.

Should I have reported it as "15, or as "51"?

I sure hope that the NFHS (unlike the NCAA) sticks to digits below six.

A few years ago it took me a while to get comfortable with two hand (and stating the actual number and not stating each digit) reporting.

If TPTB are going to allow these numbers, I'm using the FIBA signals to report fouls.

On second thought, a scorekeeper at a game like this might get more confused by the 11-15 numbers where a clenched fist=10. Nevermind me.

No thanks. I'll just whip out my pocket abacus.

Last week, while I ended up not calling a violation, I did extend my fist for a delayed violation for a player that purposely stepped out of bounds (he didn't receive a pass).

Does that count on my Bingo card?

Do what the NBA officials do and point your fingers towards each other instead of up when reporting numbers from 6-9.
Although illegal at the NFHS level, you may still have this in a game as the HC could just take a direct technical foul and have a player wear number seven, for example.

That's an interesting trick. I haven't heard of that.

Here in my little corner of Connecticut, in middle school games we ignore uniform issues (home team not wearing white, teammates wearing different color shorts, illegal numbers, and duplicate numbers).

I had #6 (Bill Russell) in my game yesterday.

I had two #10's in my game last week.

I had different color shorts on teammates two weeks ago.

And we always get Red versus Blue , Green versus Red, etc. in our middle school leagues.
