Get Back, Loretta (Beatles 1969) ...

This was discussed at a recent meeting.

Is this step back jump shot legal?

I'm having trouble identifying a pivot foot, but don't both feet (so one of them has to be the pivot foot) move after the dribble ends and before the shot is released?

Isn't this what some of us once called a "bunny hop" move?

The pivot foot is pretty clearly the right, and it lands again before the shot so it's a travel. (I believe it would be legal in the NBA.)

No, it's not what I would call a "bunny hop" but I don't know why that matters since the term is not in the rule book and I try to use rule book terms when discussing the matter with the coach.

This colloquial phrase has fallen out of use. First appeared when Title IX "blossomed" and girls basketball started to become very popular, and then, again with girls basketball, when the three point arc appeared. Boys seldom did it, they were strong enough not to need the extra "oomph" from an extra step.

I seldom watch NBA basketball, and know little about NBA travel rules, but from the few games that I do watch the step back jump shot has become a very potent weapon.

Bunny hop is jumping forward off 2 feet and landing on 2 feet. Nothing to do with this video.

No, it came up in at a recent meeting, and the video was on a "public" Facebook site.

I'm on My Space.
