Ruling with rule/case book reference
A1 attempts a 3-point shot behind a screen set by A-2. B1 in an attempt to get to A1 shoves A2 out of the way. The shot attempt is good and team A is in the bonus. What is your ruling with references. Thanks

I don't have the citations, but I definitely know the rule.
If the defense commits a foul (technical/intentional/flagrant/common) after the habitual shooting motion begins, the goal is awarded if the try is successful. Since the foul is not committed on the shooter, you then administer the foul as you always would without regard to the successful try. |
I agree with Raymond. I see several people have looked at this situation. Do you agree with Raymond or not? Thanks:)

Don't know about the love Raymond, but I believe Case Book 5.6.2 Situation B describes what we need to get the correct ruling. Thanks, Bob

Continuous Motion ...
6.7 SITUATION D: A1 has started a try for a goal (is in the act of shooting), but the ball is not yet in flight when the official blows the whistle for B2 fouling A2. A1's try is successful. RULING: Score the goal by A1. If Team A is in the bonus, A2 will shoot free throws. If not, Team A will have a designated spot throw-in nearest to where the foul occurred. COMMENT: The foul by the defense need not be on the player in the act of shooting for continuous motion principles to apply. (6-7 Exception c)
