Tuesday night fight:

Hi everyone,
It's been a while since I've posted here but I became a reporter after a long tenure as a scorekeeper. A fight ended the game I was covering Tuesday night and from an officiating perspective I was wondering what this crew got right and what they got wrong?

Here's the video clip...

It's hard to criticize officials when a fight breaks out. I know that we have things that we have to watch for, but in the moment, my first instinct is always to try to do something to stop it or break it up. So please don't think I'm trying to be hard on anybody.

But I think the C took too long to observe the benches. Again, I totally get that she wants to try to stop the action. But one of us has to watch the benches, and she was right there. If I had been in her shoes, I would hope that once I got to the FT circle, I would realize that there wasn't anything else I could do and turn around to watch for people coming off the bench.

Please understand that I'm not trying to denigrate this official. Her reactions are 100% understandable.

Numbers ???

First thing I noticed is how difficult it is to identify bench personal with warmups covering their numbers. Are they really bench personal (with names and numbers in the scorebook) of are they just unsupervised junior varsity and freshmen players coming out of the bleachers (not off the bench)?

I have one criticism, but it doesn't mean the fight wouldn't have still happened.

Hotly contested, hometown rivalry you have to close down on physical fouls, held balls, or bodies on the floor. Trail walks away instead of making his presence immediately felt.

I don't judge what officials do once mayhem ensues. You don't know what crazies might come from the stands or benches.
