And you think it never happens (NCAA D3 womens game)

If you want to see the video -- you have to have Roku -- download the washington and lee free app -- then watch the ending.

#1 in the nation Christopher Newport wins in Double Overtime however the interesting part happened after the first overtime.

Christopher Newport hasn't had a close game all year but they had one sunday and what do you expect but a coach to blame officials during whole game. In my opinion the officials put up with way too much the entire game and didn't take care of business. He was noted at yelling not only at officials but the scorer's table and the opposing coach throughout the game.

Back to the interesting play -- after first overtime when buzzer hits 0:00 Christopher Newport has won the game by two points. Teams are in handshake line and the CNU coach then walks towards mid-court and just keeps yelling at officials -- His team has won at this point -- this is the level of nonsense they put up with all game --- FINALLY one of the referees grows a pair and hits him with a T right before the official leaves the playing confines area. Washington and Lee then hits the two free throws to tie the game. The officials listen to the CNU coach rant for another 3-4 minutes in between before sending him on his way with a 2nd technical.

So then Washington and Lee gets two more free throws and starts with the ball at half court to start the second overtime.

CNU wins the game by 2 and the atmosphere was so much better after he left the building.

I just finished watching the video when I came here to mention that we had a rare situation occur.

That first tech is something I'm sure people have seen before. It's that second tech that was new for discussion purposes. The officials adjudicated it properly as far as I can tell.

You can pull the video down from the Washington and Lee website.

Some observations.

No issue with the first T. You are running your mouth well after the game is over. You won the game, let it go. But since he couldn't, no issues with the T, especially depending on what he actually said.

Then after a T is given, I am not going to the coach about anything. Let him hang himself. Then when you there he runs through me to get to a partner, gots to go!!!! Let him put on his little show to prove the T was warranted. No reason to go to a coach after a T when you did not call the T or even if you did call the T. His coaches should control him, not the officials.

Peace

Lay In The Grave ...

Christopher Newport coach dug his own grave.

Twice.

IMO, he should've been double-T'ed during their conference, the way he was running after them. Once he approached the opposite-court volleyball line to yell at them, 2nd T should have come out.

But 57 fouls in 4Q+1OT?! Yikes!

I watched the scene with about 10 seconds left in OT when there was a timeout called. I have no idea how he didn't get whacked there. Just awful.

There was a discussion on D3hoops Hoopsville podcast regarding the rule last night.

I learned something according to whoever rules person they had from NCAA "if' he would have gotten 2nd technical before the girl shot her first technical (and she made 3 of 4) then the game is over and CNU lost.

I do vividly remember him continuing to shout and yell during the free throws ON THE COURT at midcourt -- you can't see in live feed because they are looking at free throws but again the only ref who had the integrity of the game in mind was administering the free throws while the other two just took it.

Wow. Utter buffoonery.

But that the crew let it get to that point in the first place is something that the commissioner needs to address.

Or, if she had only made 1 of the first 2, then he got a 2nd T, W&L would have received 2 more free throws, this time with the possibility of ending the game.
