Back before computers, smart phones, emails, websites, etc., every fall we would receive from my local board a "welcome to a new season" snail-mail letter listing meeting dates, availability calendar deadlines, fees, scrimmage information, refresher exam deadlines, uniform purchases, etc.

It would also always contain the statement, "Get a physical exam before the season starts".

Not sure if it would have helped this basketball official with an "undisclosed heart condition", but it's still good advice.
