Retirement Imminent
 

I have 2-3 games left in my on-court career. I may end up working a few random games in the future, but this will be the last full season I'll be on the court. I have 1 game tonight and 1 or 2 tomorrow then I'm done. After the season ends, I'm taking over as the Commissioner (assignor) for my local association. It is going to get really busy but I'm looking forward to the challenge!

I'm both excited for the remaining games and the next chapter but also think I'm going to miss it.

First Raymond, now Camron Rust, the game we all love is losing two great ones.

Camron Rust should keep his bag packed. Our assignment commissioner, long retired from on the court, will occasionally fill in for last minute cancellations that he can't reassign in a timely manner.

Congrats!!! As much as our presence on the court will be missed, I think we will have far more effect off the court in developing officials who can apply the best of what we teach them. My commissioner put me in charge of his training program.

Congratulations and good luck in the next phase of your career. It would be interesting to read forum posts from an assigner's perspective.

You couldn't' pay me enough to do this, especially in a cold weather state.

Hopefully Camron Rust will be well paid.

Our assignment commissioner covers about seventy-five high schools and many middle schools (both genders) with about 270 officials, regular season and conference/league (not state) tournaments. He gets a season salary of $32,200, and our local board pays the $2,020 Arbiter fee.

We also have an assistant assignment commissioner with access to Arbiter who is paid $3,000 to assign all preseason scrimmages and Special Olympics Unified Games.

Both are on one year renewable contracts, and serve at the pleasure of our executive board.

Maybe me. I spent three years as an Operations Officer on a U.S. Navy warship. Turns out I’m pretty good at spinning lots of plates without dropping many. I dare say I even kind of like such challenges.

But….first I think I have about 20 years of floor time left in me. During that time I’d like to retire from the military and settle somewhere for more than three years so the folks who might potentially consider me for the job at least know my first name. [emoji3]
