NC A&T at Campbell. Feb 19, 2022

The ending of this game would be excellent and instructive for discussion, if someone can post the video. It was covered by ESPN+.
I found a YouTube clip of the ending, but it cuts off before showing everything that I desire.

I believe that the officials did a wonderful job with the video review and ruling, but I would like to know how they handled the timing error following the missed FT at the end.

I know for a fact there's somebody who lurks on these boards who can ask one of these officials personally and find out.

Ball Isn't Released Before Horn ...

NFHS comments.

No way the ball was released before horn/lights. Continuation doesn't apply when ball isn't released before horn.

No basket.

NFHS 6-7 Exception-C: The ball does not become dead until the try or tap for field goal ends, or until the airborne shooter returns to the floor, when: Article 7 occurs by any opponent of a player who has started a try or tap for field goal (is in the act of shooting) before the foul occurred, provided time did not expire before the ball was in flight.

The foul did come before the horn/lights.

Two free throws with 0.1 seconds (time of foul) on the clock with rebounders.

Regarding only the timing error at the very end. Inadvertent horn. Nobody tried to rebound. 0.1 seconds put back on the clock (definite knowledge). Alternating possession arrow (no team control).

NCAA rules probably differ.

I agree. He is indeed a lurker.

Whistle ...

Perhaps they're saying that the clock didn't stop with the whistle, and that there was still 0.1 seconds left, time enough for the ball to be released?

Watched the video again, with the volume on loud.

To me the audio "order" is horn, then followed (split second) by the whistle.

Clock stops with the whistle, right? Not with the foul?

NFHS 5-8-1-A: Time-out occurs and the clock, if running, must be stopped when an official: Signals: A foul.

If an official were to look up at the game clock at his whistle it would have read 0:00:0, so no definite knowledge to reset?

Now, not only do I believe that the basket should not have counted, I'm no longer sure that there should have been free throws?

But, as a high school official, I have absolutely no idea what can, and cannot, be changed in the course of an NCAA replay.

Nice video Nevadaref. Thanks.

The play was adjudicated properly using the monitor.

I have not followed the latest on the NCAAM’s rules regarding the use of the video monitor, but a few years ago the time on the clock at the instant of the foul/contact was restored.

'Nough said. No need to go deep into the weeds. Thanks.

Thanks. Contact definitely came before the horn/light.
