No call, Kentucky foul or Florida foul?

I thought I would solicit the thoughts of the group here, whose opinions I often silently read and enjoy immensely.

John Adams, former NCAA head of officiating, watched this play live. His review of the play...well, maybe I'll hold off on what he said happened/correct call, and let you give your thoughts.

Here's the clip:

Thank you.

I think if the Kentucky player did not appear to be hurt this probably would not be considered anything but incidental.

Peace

When a player dives through the legs of a stationary player that has the ball (even if just barely) it should be a foul. You don't get to dislodge or displace another player just because you're going for the ball.

Completely agree. I had this very type of call on February 6 in a high school game.

I think we as a group let too much go when players are going for a lose ball. Yes, there's the "equally advantageous positions" provision, but that gets interpreted too broadly.

I do agree. No issue with the foul being called, but think if nothing happened to the player it would not be posted.

Peace

I have no-called plays like this in my career

That was my initial reaction.

Wouldn't argue if a foul was called.

^^^

The injury is not relevant. This is a foul all day long, in all situations. He upended the player who was already standing there.

Now ... when do we get to hear John Adams' thoughts?

Right now! Thanks so much for all of the comments.

No foul was called on either Kentucky (the initial push) or Florida (displacing the Kentucky player receiving the ball).

John Adams said this.

"KY player inadvertently pushes FL player into TyTy. Purely accidental but it seems a foul should have been called on the FL player. Washington didn’t slip on a banana peel!"

I was hoping he would explain his position more fully, but he didn't. Some thought the Kentucky player should be called for a foul. Some thought the Florida player should. Others thought the no-call was correct.

I appreciate this group sharing your thoughts on it, which was greatly appreciated.

I've had to come get these types of fouls before, and I'm sure I've missed one a time or two as well. But these need called. If you want to get technical, just break it down into 2 equal parts of advantage for the ball/floor space. If there is any imbalance in that percentage that is caused by contact, then there you go.
