Men's Rec League pay in your area

What is the going rate to officiate a men's league game in your area? Thanks.

The range I’m aware of is $30-$37.50. And yes, the league that pays $30 has a harder time finding willing bodies.

Haven't worked Mens leagues in a while, but I believe 20-25 I see posted. We generally have pretty low rates for basketball officiating.

$30 in northern NJ. And based on advice here, I have never done it.

I haven't worked recreation leagues in a very long time, but when I did, it wasn't just about money.

Time of first game (get there from work, or from home after work).
Safe and secure dressing area (if needed).
Safe and secure place for jacket, shoes, wallet, keys, cell phone, etc.
Drive time to game (local is best).
Number (bored, overworked) of games (is it worth the trip) to be worked that night (time of last game).
Schedule "tightness" of games (down time between games).
Quality of partners.
Quality of players.
Player behavior expectations.
Subsequent penalties for flagrant (you're outta here, and the next game too) behavior.
Someone with authority at the site (maybe the scorekeeper/timekeeper).
Turn around time to receive payment.
Ability (or inability) to turn back games due to new, or rescheduled, high school assignments.
General organization (or lack of) of everything.

I have no idea, have not done one of those in over 20 years. And it is based on who is holding the games, there is no standard that everyone has to follow.

Peace

Not men, but slightly on topic.

Very early in my officiating career, I was asked by an officiating colleague to regularly work a boys high school age recreation league in the next town. These are kids who did not make, or did not want to play on, the high school team. I needed the experience. I needed the money. Short drive. Games were on Wednesday nights, a usual off night for high school games back then before Title IX (girls high school basketball) kicked in big time.

Sure. Why not? What could possibly go wrong?

First problem. No adult coaches. Teams "coached" by captains.

Second problem. Scorekeeper/timekeeper was a part time recreation department job for a high school student.

But it gets worse.

Only enough players for five teams. Three games a night. Do the math. Each week, one team played in the first game, rested (usually in the parking lot), and played in the third game.

What are high school boys going to do while unsupervised by adults in a dark parking lot, especially kids undisciplined enough to not want to play on the high school team (behavior, grades, etc.)?

Third game was always a disaster. Needless to say, for me, it was one season and done.

Yes, I, BillyMac, was the first one and done basketball official.

It has been years since I did adult rec. league and in the one league that I did officiate I was also the assigner and it paid $25 per game.

Any adult rec. league that I did officiate I considered it paid practice.

Have not worked men's league game in 4 years but last time I did just north of NYC going rate was $50 to $60 a game, Was not worth the headache.
