Fun With Free Throw Administration And Contact ...

Disclaimer: For IAABO eyes only. Below is not a NFHS interpretation, it's only an IAABO International interpretation which obviously doesn't mean a hill of beans to most members of this Forum.

No survey here, just IAABO International Play Commentary:

Free Throw Administration and Contact. After bouncing the ball to the shooter, the Lead should back out of the lane (without turning their back to the players). The Lead is responsible for the farther lane line spaces and first space on nearer lane line. White #14 in the lower lane space enters the lane too soon and commits a violation not penalized by the Lead. The Center is responsible for the free thrower, second and third lane spaces on farther lane line, and flight of ball. (Man. p. 213-214)

After the ball is in flight, the Lead and the Center's focus now should change to their side of basketline for normal rebound coverage. (Man. p. 144-145) White #14 obtains a legal rebounding position in the lane. Green #35 uses his lower torso to displace White #14 as the ball comes off the ring. This contact is illegal and should be ruled a pushing foul. Once the free throw is released, The Center official should step down toward the endline instead of back toward the sideline as demonstrated on this play. (Man. p.211)

Yeah, I see the free throw violation, but I don't think that there's a foul.

Thoughts?

It is close. Not sure I would call that, but it is certainly close.

Peace

Certainly if Green gets the rebound, this should be called -- he pushed white under so white #14 can't get the rebound.

It does not surprise me that IAABO want a foul called either way, here.

Honestly, I thought this was more egregious than the FT violation

White Obliged By Moving ...

I viewed it more as Green slightly contacted White, not really a push, and White obliged by moving, ending up too far under the basket to get a rebound.

I see more of a violation than a foul. If that is a foul we are going to be calling a lot of them in this situation. Again, JMO.

Peace

Definitely not a foul. Probably a violation, but the ball rebounds to the opposite side of the paint nowhere near the two players being discussed.
