Is this okay?
While scouting an opponent for a few weeks in preparation to play, Team A's coach notices numerous dirty techniques that Team B uses. This dirty play usually revolves around rebounding, particularly offensive rebounds. Al lot of elbows in the back and Team A's coach was told by a fellow coach that several of his players had pinch marks on their backs from this team.
So officials out there.... are you okay with a coach making officials aware of dirty tactics of an opponent that have been seen on scout film? Or is that something that's not to be done in basketball? I know during pregame football meetings these type of things are frequently discussed by coaches and officials. Thanks for any guidance on this etiquette. |

I would not want to hear about it prior to a game. I would take it as an attempt to influence the officiating during the upcoming game. I would rather trust that the crew working the contest is competent and can handle the plays appropriately.

I actually posted this idea with the hope that it would politely "shame" him to be more reflective, finding it to be "inappropriate" to bring up the issue in front of the opposing coach, the officials, and the player captains.

Don't Let The Door Hit You In The ...
I don't believe that any of us would want to hear this before a game, however, that doesn't mean that a coach, or an athletic director, will not try to broach the issue.
So we need a strategy. Maybe it's the silent treatment. Maybe it's a "Get out" and slam the locker room door. Or maybe it's something more tactful and professional. Quote:
With very rare exceptions (paperwork), the official's locker room, as well as access to officials both on the way into, and way out of, the facility, should be sacrosanct and "off limits" to everybody. Quote:
However, when in Rome ...

"We'll watch for it coach."
The secret: We actually will watch for it. We always watch for illegal activity, whether it's said, or unsaid. So we've actually told the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth, so help us God.

No, it is not something I want a coach doing before a game. I will shut that conversation down.
After the game starts and he wants to make me aware of something, I'm fine with that. What Bob posted above me is something some supervisors have advised that we do when a coach insists on having this type of conversation before a game. Sent from my SM-N950U using Tapatalk
