Jump ball caught by short player
Hello all,
I know I saw a video years ago of a youth tournament level game where a really short jumper ran back and caught the tip. Am I crazy, or does someone else remember this as well? If so, can someone point me in the right direction to find it? Thanks pfan |

Thanks Billy!
The YouTube video works. In NFHS, if he is still in the circle when the other jumper taps it and if he lets it hit the floor, then it would be legal. Crazy plays.... |

We've seemed to achieve some closure in this thread, so how about changing it up a little for educational purposes? Especially in the light of a recent timekeeping error thread.
Instead of the jumper illegally catching the jump ball, let's say that one of the jumpers illegally touches the ball on the way up? Official signals and sounds whistle for the violation. Clock reads 7:59. What is an official to do before administering the throwin and setting the alternating possession arrow after the violation? |

Answer: Reset to 8:00. 5-9-2: If play is started or resumed by a jump ball, the clock shall be started when the tossed ball is legally touched. Actually saw this in a state tournament game, and was surprised that the referee had the prudence to check the clock and reset it. Before actually seeing this play, I'm not sure I would have done this correctly. |
