Free throw reset nfhs

During 2nd attempt of 2 shot ft, player B begins backing out. Administering official doesnt see this and bounces ball as player is heading out. Player B stops since shooter now has ball and is caught in limbo. We reset ball.

Thoughts? Couldnt find a case book example of what we had. Of course team A wanted a lane violation.

Sounds like you did the right thing, which it to sound your whistle and re-administer the free throw.

There is a case play about the free thrower fumbling a pass from the official, but not your situation. However, I would have done the same.

All the more reason to be very patient as Lead when throwing the ball. Make sure everyone is set, make eye contact with free throw shooter to make sure they are ready to receive, and then throw the ball. No reason to hurry, we control the pace.
Two thumbs up AremRed!!!
