This is my 24th season. Feeling relatively good at this point in my career. I have worked my last State Final in Illinois and probably in the next few years might give that up totally. I will stay working college or try to stay working as much college as possible moving forward. I am at a crossroads in my career as things will have to change in order to stay working the levels I work. I have had some nagging injuries recently that makes me wonder about how many games I should be working, but not to the point where I feel like I must do something drastic at this point. Still love it and would love to work until I am 70, but not sure that will happen.

Peace

Jeff, I can tell you that 70 is a life sea change. It may be just a number, but what a number!

That would be over 20 years. It is a goal because my wife saw an official that was over 70 that officiates and he is in great shape and looks 15 years younger than he really is and she told me immediately, "Oh, you are officiating until you are his age." If I get there with good health and good mind (some say it is gone anyway) then I would like to reach that milestone. If not, we will see. But health is the main reason because I want to stay healthy and do things to be viable years after I leave my 40s.

Peace

Fascinating

This is a great thread. I started early - I'm entering my 21st season of HS ball, 8th of NCAA-W, and I'm 38 years old.

I've had a great career - but now, with a 6-month old at home, I've cut way back on my schedule for this year...and know I'll probably be coaching one of his teams down the road (because former officials make great youth coaches

We'll see what the future holds but everyone has to have their own priorities...and I know reffing isn't even close to the top of my list.

Scott Foster (NBA) coached his daughter's AAU basketball team!

Not to hijack the discussion, but I was talking with a fellow official who took an assigning job. He said the toughest thing he had to face was telling veterans that they were over the hill.

I'm starting my first year for the 25th time.

At this rate, I hope to make it to my third season.
