Prevent Or Rectify A Timing Mistake ...
IAABO Refresher Exam
26) Early in the first quarter the coach of Team A confers with the officials to try to prevent or rectify a timing mistake. After a brief discussion it is determined that there is no error. The official charges Team a with a 30 second timeout. Is the official correct? No 5-11-4 Rule 5 Scoring And Timing Regulations Section 11 Charged Time-Outs Art. 4 Only one 60-second time-out is charged (or one 30-second time-out, if that is the only type of time-out remaining) in 5-8-4 regardless of the amount of time consumed when no correction is made. I agree with the answer but I have a question. What if Team A has already used all of their allotted timeouts? Team technical foul for "requesting" an excess timeout? |
The protocol is:
A. Charge a 60-second TO, if the team has any; B. Charge a 30-second TO, if the team has any; C. Charge an excess 60-second TO & penalize, if the team had no TOs remaining. |
