Could go either way but in this case, as L, I would have a very quick whistle and good hustle to the table as if I saw something very obvious. That will get you out of there with the least trouble.

That is contact to the head area of the shooter that any of the 3 officials who sees it should come and get.

foul

Defender never established LGP and the initial contact is with the shooters left shoulder, preventing him from rising to complete the layup.

This is a foul all day long.

This miss was entirely a mechanical failure. L was ball watching when the drive started. That's T's drive to take the basket, not L's. L should have become fixated on the lane lurker as a potential secondary defender; if he had, there's a good chance he sees the play from the start and correctly calls the defensive foul. Instead, L watched the drive and the contact surprised him. Maybe C could have helped, but he ended up being pretty straightlined and I'm not sure he could have avoided that given how quickly all of the action moved toward the basket. This was all on L; it exploded in his lap and he missed the call because he wasn't refereeing the defense.

I think the Trail should have had a cadence whistle on this. He's in perfect position to see the entire drive and the contact.
