Hits head on backboard - whaddya got?

https://www.cbssports.com/college-ba...-shot-attempt/

Most comments obviously worried about the health of the player. Presumably an appropriate medical expert OK'ed him to re-enter. (Not if it's my kid, but that's another story ...)

Anybody NOT giving the shooter 2 FTAs?

I think the official correctly called a foul on the defense. Part of the reason the defender hit his head is because he contacted the shooter and the shooter's upward momentum helped push him into the backboard.

Is it possible that the backboard is old and has the extension way lower than the rim?

Also, looks as if 14 white has an illegal sleeve on.

Also, how about a T on 14 white for grabbing/retracting the rim during a dead ball? lol.

Lastly, where was the foul? I got good block.

Doesn't look like it. I think he was high enough to hit the rim with his head...making him higher than the bottom of even the newest backboards.

Some places don't enforce that.

Yep, he clearly does so and well after any reasonable chance at playing the ball. He had no reason to even jump, much less grab the rim once he was there.

Defender's thigh was on the shooters left shoulder/arm displacing the shooter, preventing the shooter from being able to jump normally, and also accelerating the defender farther up as a result ....all before the block occurred.

Look at it carefully and you'll see the defender's jump maxing out then accelerating into the backboard. His original jump would have had him landing short of hitting his head. The only way that changed was through contact.

The problem is that there was no official in position to see the play clearly. The L only arrived after it was over.

I have a foul for the defender sitting on the shooter's shoulder prior to his face plant into the backboard.

I'm of the opinion that the Center official actually has a good look at the illegal contact created by the defender on the shooter's left shoulder. Maybe on a normal play he may of come late with a whistle.

i do not believe the official called a foul. He came in with an open hand after the player crashed to the floor to stop play for the potential injury.

Perhaps, but when running full speed, our vision isn't as good as it is when stationary. Perhaps he felt he was too far behind it to come in with something.

Slapping the backboard is not illegal if it's part of a legitimate blocked shot attempt.

Not sure the point of this as there was no slapping of the backboard in the video. Smacking, maybe with the face, but no slapping with any hands.:)
