NCAA Vid Request - Fri 3/16 - Virginia

Interesting play. With 14:00 to go in second half, UMBC defender hangs on rim after pump fake by Va player. Va player makes layup, ref calls foul but indicates not in act of shooting. Nothing for rim grab/hang.

They said briefly afterwards that J.D. Collins confirmed that it was correct with the player hanging on the rim to avoid injury. It definitely looked weird when it happened though.

Nothing in regards to hanging on the rim.

I want to see replay in regards to the foul and whether #21 was shooting.

Me too but in real time I think they got it right. In the “bend down, go back up” continuum, I don’t believe the ball handler had started to go back up again, i.e. tried for goal. Ere go, common foul and dead ball. Rim hang was definitely to prevent injury at that point. Well officiated I believe.

Correct call in regards to a non-shooting foul. Big Time Miss on the Travel by the player who passed the ball.

The C (going T) raised his hand very briefly even. Seems like he had it. I guess he didn't want to be called a travel ref.

But when do spin moves ever get called? I have seen it only a few times at all this season alone. Until the NCAA address this directly, this will almost never get called.

Peace

Did the Virginia player who attempted the shot travel? Looks like after the defending player jumped over him he wiggled his feet into better position.
