The player clearly travels upon landing. His feet come down 1-2-3 while he is holding the ball.

I am not going to argue with that -- but I think that travels upon receiving the ball are even more ignored than travels on spin moves -- especially if the player "stays in the same spot" or does not use it to prevent a subsequent violation, etc.
