VA - Louisville .9 Video

.9 remaining in game. Louisville has ball on baseline (spot) throw in, official calls throw in violation for running the baseline. To me it seems that the throwers right foot was still inside the 3’ imaginary box when the ball was released. Thoughts?

Wow. What a finish.

I didn’t think there was enough contact to warrant a foul on that 3 point shot, not to mention that the lead had no business making that call.

As far as the throw in violation, I think he moved far enough to justify the violation call.

Those letters are approximately 3 feet wide. He was mostly on the "L" when he was given the ball. The spot is 3 feet wide but his stance was probably about 2'. The edge of the space would be at most 1' to either side of where he started....middle of the "O" at most. He was almost completely past the "O" by the time he released the ball. Good call.

That said, why did they give him the ball at that spot. The throwin spot should have actually been where he released the ball from. The violation that preceded that throw in came from the top of the key yet they put the ball in play several feet outside of the lane, even several feet past the hash mark (which was in the middle of the "U". Putting the throw in spot at the wrong place made that throwin more difficult than it should have been....the closer to the corner you get, the worse the angle to get the ball in.

Camron, I think you mean feet, not inches.

You are right. I was so into typing the " for the letters, I kept going for the dimensions....corrected it.

Not enough contact? The ball fell 5 feet short as a result of the contact. Hard to not have a foul on that.

As for who called it. The T was racing up the court in transition and was straightlined to the contact (which came from the L's side). There is absolutely nothing else to look at with under 2 seconds on the clock but the shot. And, it was the closest matchup to the endline. What else would the L be looking at. The L better be looking there to help since there rest of the players were irrelevant.

If the L doesn't call it, and the coach or assignor asks why, "Not my call" isn't the right answer.

Not only a good call, a great call at the critical moments of the game. He could have passed on it and no one would have said hardly a word. And he gave the right signal.

Peace

Great mechanic from L, but stupid comment from one of the announcers. Traveling on out of bounds. LOL

Heightened awareness in the final seconds of a game. Call the obvious foul. It was more than incidental contact on 3 point shooter. The shooter was protected in this play.
