IF throw in

NFHS Rules. As time expires in 3rd period, R1 calls an intentional foul on B1. The foul clearly happened before the buzzer sounded to end the 3rd period. Since the foul happened before 3rd period ended, would A1 attempt the 2 free throws with no player on the lines. Would A get the throw in to start the 4th period or would you use the AP arrow.

Use the arrow.

I don’t know the rule and I’m too lazy while watching football to go look, but the ruling is based on two precepts:

1. If a foul or violation occurs so near the expiration of playing time for a quarter or extra period that the timer cannot get a the clock stopped, the quarter or extra period ends with the foul or violation (excepting that it ends after related activity if applicable, which it does in this case (free throws for the IPF)).

2. No penalty from one quarter or extra period carries over to another, except for correctable errors.
