foul shot before the game began ?

I have a new part time job on the event staff at the arena on the campus of Florida SW College. Before last night's men;s game tipped off, they were awarded a foul shot. No announcement was made as to why. I don't think there was any "delay of game". Would that be the only reason for that? I never saw that before in my 78 years.
Thanks in advance for your input.

That implies that a Class B technical foul was assessed. That was most likely for some kind of administrative infraction, such as a team member being added late to the scorebook. Under NCAAM rules, the penalty is one TF free throw, with resumption at the point of interruption which would be the jump ball. Also, I don’t believe Class B techs count as team fouls for purposes of reaching the bonus in NCAAM.

NFHS (high school) is similar, except that there would be two FTs, the offended team would get the ball out of bounds, and the TF would count as a team foul.

The stats do show a Team T against Polk.

I didn't see a PBP analysis on the website.

If it’s an NJCAA school, the T could have been for pregame dunking.

Thanks again for the info. Most likely it was some sort of administrative thing. They did still have a jump ball to start play. Could have been that pre-game dunking, I notice that they really don't do it. The P.A, guy just never gave the reason.
