Visual 10-second count with 8 on game clock?
 

Team A inbounds the ball after a made basket with 8 seconds left on the game clock. Does T give a visual 10-second backcourt count even though the violation is impossible at that point? I saw someone do this in an NCAAW game last night. When I asked two other officials about this, I got different answers.

I'm doing it in case I need to fix the clock. The count gives me definite knowledge.

Agreed with Rich. More often, I see the official not count when the shot clock is off -- and that's when it is supposed to be done. (If the shot clock is on, no need to visually count because the shot clock is used to determine a 10-second violation.)

Sorry, missed it was an NCAAW game. Same advice in a HS game. Can't be a violation, but if you get to the division line and the clock never started....
