Drive to the basket. What do you have on this play? (Video)

Do you award the shots? If so why? If not why?

Peace

I likely wouldn't have a travel on this play. It's damned close (right foot on the floor or not with possession). I watched it three times -- if I have to do that, I'm not coming in with a whistle in real time.

I wouldn't score it, either.

If there is a travel... no foul.

Slowing it down, it seems he stops dribble (catches ball with right foot on the ground, steps with left, then to right)... slowing down it’s a travel, at regular speed, I’m not sure I’d get this.

If we don’t call travel, I’d be more inclined to call this on the shot. Continuous motion is the act that habitually precedes the shot...when he picks up the ball, he’s committed to shooting. He’s started the layup.... the rule allows person with ball to take the normal steps as part of layup....

This is the HS rule, the college rule requires upward motion at the time of the foul.

Are you sure?

Rule 4, Section 8.
Continuous Motion

Continuous motion applies to a try for field goal or free throw, but shall have no significance unless there is a foul by the defense during the interval that begins when the normal throwing movement starts a try or with the touching on a tap and ends when the ball is clearly in flight.
I do not see anything anymore about upward motion. And Upward motion actually was more about when a player was in legal guarding position. I think they got away from that a few years ago.

Peace

If there was not travel -- award two shots.

If the travel was after the foul -- award two shots

If the travel was before the foul -- award no shots

No it doesn't. That rule change was rescinded.

Wave off the basket, get the 2 HCs together, inform them it was a shooting foul, but the basket doesn't count b/c the foul caused a travel.

There is an obvious travel but it’s on the catch and take off at half. You only see it on the first look though.

In terms the play we are supposed to be looking at, a lot happens at once. I like the call foul leads to extra steps call off shot.
