Backcourt violation?
A-1 has control in BC, passes to A-2 in FC, but it's a bad pass and deflects off A-2's leg and returns to BC where A-1 recovers.
Violation? Don't have my casebook with me but I believe casebook has this as a violation... but according to 9-9 Art 1 below their must be team control in FC for this to be violation. 9-9 Art 1 ...A player shall not be the first to touch the ball after it has been in team control in the frontcourt, if he/she or a teammate last touched or was touched by the ball in the frontcourt before it went to the backcourt. |
There was team control in the frontcourt. A-1 had control in the BC, and team control doesn’t end until one of three things happens. Once the ball touches A-2, it has FC status (and is still in A’s control). When A-1 subsequently touches it in the BC, it is a violation.
Player control in the FC is not a requirement for a BC violation. The only time player control matters is (1) after a try, to reestablish team control or (2) after a throw-in, there must be player control established somewhere inbounds in order for a violation to occur (but not necessarily in the FC). |
The OP might want to check the definition of team control in Rule 4.
