Origin of the Three-Person System?
Does anybody have any reliable historical information as to the origin of the three person system? I had heard that it was developed in Cleveland, Ohio sometime in the seventies, and that the original intent was to provide more complete off-ball observation, but cannot legitimize any of that one way or the other. Does anybody know who came up with the system and about when? Was it a collaborative effort bye a committee or was there one person who developed it?
Thank you in advance for your response if you happen to know anything on this topic.

The National Basketball Committee of the United States and Canada was the predecessor of the NFHS and NCAA Men's Basketball Rules Committees (pre 1977-78 or 1978-79 season) and I know that it was publishing a three-person mechanics manual for both boys'/girls' H.S. and men's college as early as the 1971-72 season and earlier.

Origin of the Three-Person System?
Asked a couple of NBA official friends and I was told Darrell Garretson is the father of the 3 person system.

4 whistle coming??
We may be seeing the harbinger of the next evolution of 4 whistle officiating.
NBA G-league will be running 4 man crews the entire month of November. Trialled 4 man and 5 man crews in a few games last year.
