This is the result of crappy officials. Over time coaches/players think they can do whatever they want because of crap officials. When they run into competent officials that take care of business they whine, quit, and blame the refs.

In the end none of the adults want to take responsibility for their or their team's actions and just deflect to someone else. It's getting a bit out of hand and one of the main reasons I pretty much don't do off season stuff. My tolerance and patience is 0 for bad behavior, which lead to way to many issues between me and coaches and players and T's. I just said if that's what the coaches/players/organizers expect then I'm out. I haven't looked back.

6 techs. That's not poor officiating, coach. That's poor coaching. I read a different article so not sure if the one you linked has the opposing coach's comments, but that answers any questions. He basically said he's never seen a team act like that big of slappydicks before.

If the coach truly felt they were getting worked by the refs, then this should be used as a teaching moment for life in general. His message was to quit. Pick up your ball and literally leave. No respect for people that do this.

However, this has been building for years. Star players and teams and coaches increasingly are willing to argue, act demonstratively, and otherwise do the job of the referee. I want to say it started in the late 80's with Pistons bad boy basketball and has filtered down to all levels. The pressure to keep star players in the game and let "players play" intensifies every year. Where does it stop?

This is unreal....so 6 Ts and they were working him over, eh? Sounds like a blowhard "coach" who doesn't focus on his players and doesn't check them when they get out of line...

Perhaps the fix for summer ball is that one technical results in an automatic ejection. Too many mouthpieces running summer teams and not enough Coaches. That's not to say there are not some really good guys Coaching summer hoops because there are...it's the LaVarr Ball's of the world that need to find something else to do...

You'd be hard pressed to see it in a high school setting, or even a college setting. There is accountability for the clowns. Coaches who pull their players off mid-game tend to get suspended by the state, and doing so because of a complaint about the officials is likely to land them in even hotter water.

The coaches with this kind of clout don't do it during a game. They call the assigner afterwards and have a discussion about the officials.

I'm willing to bet this is one of those pay-to-play camps (edit: AAU duh) where the camp leaders don't back the officials and only have them there to give it the appearance of a bit more legitimacy. In my experience, those camps don't enforce foul limits, technical limits, penalties, etc... Not only that, without leadership at the coaching level, the kids walk around and play like their shit don't stink.

I am not sure why people officiate these. Is the money really worth it? I went to a try out camp at one of these weekends a couple years ago. It was a joke and I would never do it again. If the camp director doesn't want to enforce the rules, why would you do that game?
