~10 point game Girls' Varsity
4 jump balls.

24 swatted at 40 and I called her for a foul. I think she whiffed.

Player caught a pass with .03 and made the shot. Coach wants three.

Red Coach is screaming for time-out and I grant it. White was dribbling

White Coach re-orifices me on an easy player control.

33 is called and gets all pushed outa shape and was ranting in the first lane spot.

I report the fifth and told my partner to tell the coach. (<I>Dumb rule</I>)

And what did you do tonight? ;)

LOL! If I were you I would make my partner responsible for each & every timeout. Tell the coaches you just aint granting any, they'll need to ask the other guy.

:D

I sat at home wishing the season had started. Won't have anything until November. Baseball season is over, I umpired my last game about a week ago. I'm really itching to get going.

It's bad enough you're going to a chick flick, but do you have to quote from them, too? :(

Took my one-year old to the park. Routine fall but he bit his tongue and bled like a stuck pig. Tried to do laundry before wife noticed the crime scene but got busted. Am now hiding in the den. :-)

Middle School volleyball. Team B ahead by 12 or so, at game point, and coach B is upset about a "possible" lift. Sheez.

Indoor soccer - 5 cautions in a single game, resulting in 2 ejections.

Can't wait until Saturday when I'll get to work a few club basketball games - my first since July!

Yo, Mick. Why do you think it's a dumb mechanic? I always thought that it was silly that they asked the fella that just whistled poor little Billy with his fifth to walk over to the coach and tell him his star just fouled out. It's not that I don't have the...err...fortitude (yeah, that's it) to face up to the coach after doing such an egregious act but I don't see the need to set up a confrontation. I think it makes sense that my partner goes over to handle it and be told how bad I am stinking up the place as your partner probably had to endure last night. ;)

Barry,
This should be an optional mechanic, if Official wants to retreat.
So many times, the coach already has a replacement at the table. Rarely, is a coach pushed so outa shape that he would rather confront the calling Official instead of any Official.

Instead of avoiding confrontation, both coaches and officials should be schooled in dealing with, avoiding confrontation.

And of course, I am talking about the two-whistle game. In a three-whistle game, the procedure is natural and efficient.

In this case, I called the foul, called the number, gave my partner the number of throws, reported at the top of the key, was told that was the fifth, jogged to my partner, who had the lane set to shoot, and told him to tell the coach and to notify the player. While I was doing that, the disqualified player, who knew it was the fifth and gone to the bench, sat down and the substitute was ready to be beckoned. So, I went back to Lead to administer the throw and my partner went back to Trail. (<I>Dumb rule.</I>)

Hey, going is just part of the job. Once in a while, you just bite the bullet and do what you gotta do. But I didn't think I was quoting a movie. . . I thought somebody really said that.

Famous philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche (say that fast 3 times)is credited with that statement originally.

Mick, I think you're right. It would have been best to have made that mechanic optional.
