loose ball foul

Recently, I have heard announcers use the term "loose ball foul" in NCAA games.
Am I correct that there is no difference between loose ball and controlled ball fouls?

Is this just announcers acting like they know more or is there a difference in pro, with announcers that overlap?

YES, I know announcers are not rule experts.

The NBA does have a distinction. Sometimes the announcers get confused.

Announcers are often describing the play, not commenting on rules or calls.

Sometimes they simply comment based on what they think the rule "probably is" or "should be" rather than what the rule actually says. Or they're using the "everyone knows" rule set, passed down in an oral tradition over generations of coaches, players, and parents.

Two different type of loose ball fouls.

1) During rebounding action when there is no Team Control

2) Action subsequent to an interrupted dribble or deflected pass when there still is Team Control

I'm thinking most times announcers are referring to rebounding fouls.

The NBA does have terminology in regards to Loose Ball Fouls.

Based on what I have heard from coaches this season I thought that there was no longer such a thing as a loose ball foul.

Yep, it's a rule-free scrum.
