Pass or Shot?
My son coaches a Freshman High School Basketball team. Offensive player A1 shot the ball and was fouled. The ball entered the basket and the official gave him 2 points for the bucket, HOWEVER, he told the Coach (my son) that since A1 was passing and not shooting, he would only get the ball out of bounds for throw-in. The other ref stepped in, determined that he was indeed shooting the ball and they gave A1 a one shot free throw.
So, this led to an interesting conversation and ultimately this question: If a player is fouled while TRULY passing the ball, the ball gets tipped and enters the basket, is it a shooting foul or not? If the ball is tipped and does not enter the basket, it is not a shot and the ball is awarded to team A for a throw-in...
