"Old fart" basketball officials.
Mark, Jr., and I had a girls' JrHS DH on Monday of the week before. The Visitor's HC in the 8th grade game was never enamored with our officiating but early in the 4th QT he crossed the line.
V had the ball in its FC. Mark was T, TS, and I was L, OT. V1 starts to drive toward the basket from my corner. V1 commits and charging foul and I come out with the PC foul. (note: I am getting old, :D, so we use the old 2-person women's college mechanic of no long switches.) I step out, clear the players, and report the foul. Since Home had been pressing in the 2nd HF, Mark kept his foot in the bucket, while I reported the foul. As I was reporting the foul, Mark gives a short burst of his whistle and Ts the V-HC. V-HC's crime: While I am reporting the foul he points to me and says: "That 'old fart' is a terrible official." Mark's reasoning is that no one can call his "old man" and "old fart" except him, :p. The best part that when we met at center court to discuss what we had we both burst out laughing when he told me what the coach said. We lost our professional bearing. MTD, Sr. |
It Was The Tone Of His Comment ...

I never get the "terrible official" comment from coaches, just the "old fart" comment, and I wear it as a badge of honor. After all, they're aren't too many of us working out there. We're like a fine wine ... |

Everyone knows I am a "terrible" official, :p! But as far as Mark, Jr., and Andy (our younger son) are concerned, only they can call their "old man" and "old fart". LOL! It really was for calling me an "old fart". LOL! MTD, Sr. |
Could have been worse. He could have called Mark Jr. a "young fart".
