Good PC call IMO. Defender was legal and shooter makes contact with elbow on way up.

White committed two charges before he released the the ball.

And both charge calls are easy calls to make.

How could WHITE commit a charge when they were on defense?

We know he made a mistake on the color. However, I'll answer your question just the same.

Nothing about a "charge" is specific to the offense.

Both the offense and defense can commit a blocking foul and both the offense and defense can commit a charging foul. Only when either type of foul happens to be committed by a player in control of the by a player of the team in control do they become player or team control fouls.

Some people mistakenly use the two as if they're synonymous. Charging, as defined, is running into another player without reference to who has the ball.

Quote:
ART. 2 . . . Charging is illegal personal contact caused by pushing or moving into an opponent’s torso.
The sub-parts of this article do not necessarily limit charging to only being possible by an offensive player but clarify situations when it is an offensive player.

That was a good "NO preliminary signal" from the lead. Not sure which way he was going to call, but by delaying, it may have avoided a blarge. He was patient and let the center go with his call.

The Center has the best look at the amount of displacement on this play. It is also a primary defender during a drive from above the FT line. This is an outside officials call, not the Lead's. No secondary defender is ever involved in this action.

I agree...great mechanic by the L to blow and hold. He was gonna punch it if the C didn't. Can tell by the way he started to turn his shoulders.

I agree that he shouldn't have blown the whistle in the first place.... BUT.... since he did, it was a good job of not showing early, as it may have just compounded the quick whistle.

That was a text book example of how these potentially problematic events should be adjudicated--good coordination between L and C.
