Lamar girls win region title after two Timmonsville technicals | Sports | scnow.com

"A technical foul based on the rule jerseys should be tucked in shorts was called on Timmonsville’s Makyla Commander with 9.5 seconds left and Thursday’s game tied at 29. Almost immediately, another technical was called on Whirlwinds coach Perry Stokes as he was on the floor arguing the first one."

Wow!

Wow!

Not sure if you're "wowing" at the poor grammar, the fact that two T's were called, or that the score was 29-apiece at the end of the game.

I hope this was a case of the players being asked over and over without complying, and not an "out of nowhere" call.

A technical foul is so far down the list of enforcement options, I can't imagine a scenario where I get there.

Really? How about the T for shirt un-tucked with 9.5 sec left in a close game. Like someone already posted, how do you go there?

I should have used blue text.

Just when I start thinking common sense might be common....

There Has To Be More To This Story ...

3-3-5: A player not wearing the pants/skirt properly and above the hips
and/or a player not tucking in a team jersey (front and back) designed to be worn
inside the pants/skirt, shall be directed to leave the game as in 3-3-4; a charged
time-out shall not alter this requirement.

3.3.5 SITUATION A: B1 fouls A1. Just before A1 goes to the line for a one-and one,
the official observes: (a) A1 pull the shirt out of his/her pants; or (b) A1’s
pants being worn below the hips. RULING: In both (a) and (b), A1 will be directed
to put the shirt in the pants or pull up the pants, and must leave the game
immediately following his/her last free throw(s).
The lane is cleared for the free
throw and Team B is awarded the ball for a throw-in, whether or not the last free
throw is successful. COMMENT: A charged time-out by Team A does not alter the
requirement for A1 to leave the game.

3.3.5 SITUATION B: A1 is directed to leave the game because his/her jersey is
not tucked into the game pants.
The official notifies the Team A coach that a
replacement is required. The official then instructs the timer to begin the 20-second
replacement interval because a substitute is not made available immediately.
Team A’s head coach then requests a time-out to keep A1 in the game. RULING:
Team A’s time-out request may only be granted after A1 is replaced by a substitute.
A time-out is not permitted to keep a player in the game who has been
directed to leave for not wearing his/her uniform properly. Once A1 is replaced by
a substitute, Team A may request and be granted a time-out, if desired. (2-12-5;
3-3-5; 5-8-3b)

Exactly. There is no T for this by itself. If the player flips you the bird when you direct her to tuck her shirt in, that's a whole different animal. But by itself it's just (for me, anyway) a courtesy request or, if blown off or a repeated failure, a direction to leave the game.

9.5 seconds left? In a playoff game? I know we're not into suspending HS crews in general, but these guys should not be working playoffs again for a while. That's awful. I'd have gotten T'd if I were the coach, too.

Very sad. I've heard some fellow officials who sometimes say, "I'm not a rules guy." Makes me cringe. This crew was evidently full of "non-rules guys."

SC Official Sat Feb 11, 2017 12:01am

I don't know the ratings of these three officials. But the system in SC is such that it's unlikely there will be any repercussions for the crew.

Sad.

Amesman Sat Feb 11, 2017 09:16am

I'm with Billy -- there has to be more to this story ... right?!

Maybe the crew is going to adopt a stance from this line from the story: "he thought she was taking it out instead of putting it in" and give disrespect or unsporting as justification?

Even then, you'd have to think there would be some significant history to warrant that kind of discipline.
