Injured player has to leave

If you stop play for an injury, is there an instance where they don't have to be subbed out?

Yes, if no on goes out to check on them and they appear to be OK and can continue.

Peace

You can always stop play to check on a player. He never has to come out simply because you stopped the game. As Jeff said, if he's fine, play on. If he isn't, I'd waive coach or trainer out and now he has to be subbed.

Even if a timeout is requested and granted?

The question was pretty obvious to me that he was talking about a stoppage of play and then continuing on. Obviously, if they call a TO and he's ready to play by the end of it he can stay in.

You know that and simply could have added it on.

Can anyone provide the rules reference? I have searched under injury, beckon etc and can't find it. I was starting to doubt myself because all the other guys say if you stop play for an injury they HAVE to sub. I will pass it along to all of them.

Make them give you a rule reference. They won't be able to.

If someone doesn't find the reference today, I'll grab it tonight when I get off work.

3-3-6

A player who has been injured to the extent that the coach or any other bench personnel is beckoned and comes onto the court shall be *directed to leave the game, unless a time-out is requested by, and granted to, his/her team and the situation can be corrected by the end of the time-out.

5-8-2 says clock, if running, shall be stopped when an official: Stops play---because of injury. So you have the authority to stop the clock because of injury. It then refers you to 3-3-6.

Now 3-3-6 says player injured to extent coach or any other ....comes out he has to be removed unless TO.

So, again, you've stopped play cause of injury to check on player. He's not hurt that bad and no one comes on floor. Play on. Rule says he only comes out if someone comes on floor.

Rule 3-3-6: Problem solved

Peace
