Technical Free Throws - Where Players Stand

Someone told me that it's not a rule that everyone on the floor except the shooter must stand behind the division line. Is that true?

Correct, that is not a rule.

The correct rule says players must stand behind the 3-point line, and no furthur around the side of the 3-point line than the Free Throw line extended.

Same restriction on players outside the lane spaces as any other free throw -- just shot with the spaces cleared.

There is no rule for that, but you also do not get to dictate where the players go as well. Often players will go the division line on their own. Just like some might during a normal FT.

Peace

Rule 8-1-5 applies to free throws of any breed or variety.

Not a rule, never has been. Players just do it anyway, because 'everyone knows it's the rule".

They never remember anything we say or do, but for some reason they remember this rule that a ref enforced when they were in 5th grade.

From The List ...

For free throws when there are no rebounders in the marked lane spaces, i.e. technical fouls, and intentional fouls, the nine nonshooters shall remain behind the free throw line extended, and behind the three point arc.

Missouri Adoption

I do not have the exact words but it says: For games officiated with 2 officials, on intentional fouls and Technical fouls, the non administrating official will stand at the midcourt with the nine remaining players to observe them better.
It DOES NOT say anything about games officiated with 3 officials.
And does the statement just apply to where the official should stand? Or are the players lumped into the requirement of standing at the midcourt?

It's the mechanics manual. What do you think? :)

What I wrote came from was a Missouri adoption. We also have a mercy rule, running clock in 4th quarter with 30+ point differential

Still a mechanics adoption, not a rules adoption.

Running clock is definitely a rules adoption. It is one of the nine listed on page 68 of the rules book.

5-5 NOTE: A state association by adoption may institute a running clock when a specified
point differential is reached at a specified time in the game.
