So, I was in the...ahem...library this afternoon perusing my Rules Book when, lo and behold, I come across this statement on page 73 in the points of emphasis section [regarding time-out administration}:

"In addition, if the ball is loose or is not 'clearly' in team control, the request may not be granted."

Perhaps someone should remind the editors that "player", not "team" control is needed before we can grant time-outs.

I know I'm being picky but I am bored and we need to start some kind of discussion here. By the way, is that first sentence of mine the textbook definition of Run-on sententce or what?

Page 73...You sure spend a lot of time in the library

I see what you mean. Just one of those ambiguous areas that keep up popular.

I'll nit-pick too. The above statement is true. If there's no team control (with the clock running), then you can't call the TO.

Maybe it's not as precise as you would've liked, but it's still true. . .

Wow! I must have missed that thread. Rain, I stand humbled by your ability to create run-on sentences and endeavor myself to, one day, be able to produce one as magnificent as that example.

You're right. I didn't read far enough down the thread. However, I am going to "dis" you and still give the credit to Juulie because of your earlier nit picking of my nit picking. You are obviously far too anal retentive to receive such accolades.

Yes, I gladly give Chuck, the trophy, or...

Hey! Could we give it a Slappy? Who's in charge of that department?

Hey Rain,

Is that guy you're quoting in your signature related to the Baileys who used to run the Savings & Loan over in Bedford Falls?

Re: Request for Slappy Award
Sept 26, 2003

Dear Mr/Ms Rainmaker;

Your recent request to issue a Slappy award is denied. While the identity of the awardee appears vague we believe the intent is to issue said award to a Mr/Ms Chuck Elias. The board has placed an embargo on the issuance of Slappys to said person until the Red Sox are properly disposed of in the coming weeks. Per Slappy Award Request procedure 11-4 subpar 12b and 13f please remit a certified check or money order in the amount of $37.50 made out to "Beer Fund". Per Slappy Award Request procedure 12-6 subpar 9g, you are invited to appeal this decision. If you chose to do so make the check for $97.46. In either case the bill is payable in 30 days, interest shall accrue per Slappy Award Request procedure 26-1 subpar 9b notes 6 and 8 thereafter.

Sincerely,

blah blah blah

NEXT!

I don't think so, Clarence.

The Reporting-To-The-Table answer is, "No." (Mechanic is to shake head firmly, but slowly from right to left to right.)

The complete tell-your-partner-in-the-locker-room-after-the-game answer is: I have no idea at all. I would assume (as Chuck does) that he is not related, but I suppose anything is possible. When my grandmother died, I was the person who cleaned out most of the papers and files. I found a manila envelope stuffed full of little sayings clipped out of magazines and newspapers. Looked like maybe 50 years worth. I saved the whole thing, and I have been going through it a little at a time, and posting the ones I like. The one I'm using now looks like it came from some sort of inspirational booklet, such as Guideposts. Grandma was big on Norman Vincent Peale, so it might actually be from one of his things.
