It starts legal, but when the blue defender tries to go under the screen, it becomes illegal.

I posted that as a fan [emoji12] |
Now as an official....I'm agreeing it was illegal. But, that almost never gets called in games I watch. And I do think the defender was doing a little acting there and also creating some of the contact as well. He kinda shoved his way through the screen. But, BNR is correct, there is a hold at the very end.

Rut, THANKS for posting this! Tim

As the amount of ball screen action continues to grow in games the amount of in consistencies can become more apparent.
That call is 100% accurate. The issue (not that we need to care) for coaches, fans, announcers etc. Is if that screen is illegal (and it is) both teams and teams all over the country every night are setting illegal screens that are not being gotten. |

What's challenging about screens is that when you're trained to referee the defense, sometimes they can surprise you. Hence why sensing the broader picture of what the offense is trying to do is important. |

Also motion offenses have become more prevalent and that is why were are seeing these screens more often. Peace |
I agree that a foul was committed by the screener but I would say that the foul was more of a holding foul by the screener after the initial contact between the screener and the screenee.

Surprised no one has mentioned the Trail in this clip. As Trail, we have to stay connected to the play. This dude looks like he thinks the play is going long. He should be at the 28' on the sideline refereeing this action, and have primary whistle on this play.
