Gonzaga/Tennessee couple plays

Couple good plays from the second half of the game...

10:57–Mark Few whines to Jamie Luckie for a foul, Luckie calls foul against TENN, then whacks Few

4:07–Example of a defender who stays grounded in the RA called for an RA block

3:38–Close block/charge play called block

...

4:07--that was a foul on B1 for walking/turning into shooter A1. He was the primary defender, so the RA was of no significance.

Fair enough, I just thought I saw Luckie point to the RA.

Defender barely beats him to the spot. May have gone the other way if the Lead had been watching the defense. His eyes were following A1's drive up until the point of contact.

Something I need to do a better job of bringing up in pre-games, making sure the crew is not applying the RA to non-RA plays. Not only was he the primary defender, but it was a post play and there was never a chance for a secondary defender to get involved.

1) Can't tell what Few said, but I'm sure there were some magic words or he had been warned previously for ABS. Coaches shouldn't be b*tching after a call that goes in their favor.

2) Looks like the defender moves into the shooter as he goes up, good call. Incorrect mechanic in pointing to the RA.

3) Very close, can only tell in slo-mo that the defender was legal. Correct call would have been PC, but hardly a bad miss.

I think he was given this because he simply would not stop. That definitely looked like he was getting this for previous statements.

I do not think he is calling an RA player, I think he is pointing at the player. Similar to what was done at a game earlier in the year that made the first video by JD Collins on a blarge that was called between Kansas and Indiana.

I agree with JRut. I believe that he only pointing at the player he called the foul on.

I can understand that looking at it again. Some purists would be unhappy with Luckie pointing to the offending player. I couldn't care less, just thought he was pointing to the RA.

Well this is why they tell officials not to point in this manner. It is confusing, but it appears he is pointing at the player. Or he applied the rule improperly. But I am going to assume he used the wrong mechanic as this was a primary defender and that was clear.

Peace
