Ejection

Can a player be ejected without receiving a technical foul? If so what is the protocol for enforcement?

For a player to not be allowed to play one of the following would need to be satisfied.

1. DQ'd for 5 personal fouls
2. 2 Direct T's
3. 1 Flagrant foul

You also have uniform issues, but those are fixable.

If you're asking about a high school game, team members are never "ejected." Ejection applies to adult bench personnel who must leave the gym after getting two T's.

A player is disqualified by a flagrant personal foul, to answer your question.

I assume we're talking about NFHS rules and you meant "disqualified" and that you're referring to a situation other than your everyday, run-of-the-mill fifth personal foul.

If so, the answer to your question is 'yes.' A single flagrant personal foul results in disqualification.

Protocol for enforcement of this is to signal and penalize the foul just like an intentional personal, except that when you report to the table, you announce that the foul was flagrant and that the offending player is disqualified. Then you inform the coach and player and start the sub interval.

No need to rush all of this; it will likely be a charged and emotional few minutes, so some cooling off time with the teams at their benches probably wouldn't hurt.

In rare situations, if the disqualifyee would be better off in the locker room (i.e. truly ejected), you have the authority to direct that but the player must remain under adult supervision.
