Coach on the floor

A friend of mine likes to bring me plays he has seen and ask what I would have done. This weekend he saw a college coach take several steps out onto the court, grab his own player and pull him to the spot he wanted him at during a live ball.

Should there have been a whistle?

I officiated women's college from 1974 to 2008 and men's jr. college from 1993 to 2008. I never had it happen at the college level but if happened in front of me, yes I would "whack" the coach.

That said, in the 2013 AAU Boys 5th/11U National Championship Tournament I did have it happen in an elimination game and yes, I "whacked" the coach. I can understand a HC's mild frustration with young players, but that still does not give him the right or privilege to enter the court during a Live Ball.
